As many of you know, my lifelong focus has been on the creative arts and on diligently
supporting creative artists, especially writers and musicians. My husband Tim and I
ran a poetry/acoustic music showcase for years and for about eight years now we host
a monthly acoustic music open-mic showcase. We also help with a monthly bluegrass jam
and we are creative arts photographers.
In 2016 I had a surgery that limited my activities, and I also devoted a great deal
of my time to politics. For countless reasons I believe that it is imperative that
we make sure that America's current unfit president will be a one-term president.
As Mark Cuban has said, "Don't waste your time trying to talk Trump fans out of
supporting him. Convince those who didn't care enough to vote to get involved."
As Desmond Tulu said, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have
chosen the side of the oppressor."
The current unfit, inexperienced, uneducated, intolerant, misogynistic, authoritarian,
racist, and narcissist president of America does not respect women, minorities,
or immigrants. He has no political experience. He is a self-focused vulgar
con-man, and he is morally questionable. We cannot keep track of the amount
of lies and contractions that he tells. He is a national embarrassment and
a catastrophic danger to America and to the world.
I urge you to do what you can to help protect our country and the world.
Encourage people to vote, to sign petitions, and to take part in this resistance.
We can join together and we can build a strong and effective movement against Trump.
Become part of coalitions, march, peacefully demonstrate, reach out to politicians,
take part in letter-writing campaigns, be non-violent but remain committed and
motivated, boycott, get friends to engage in helping, and most importantly remain
aware of what is happening. Have some clear goals and work toward those goals, do
not focus only on protesting --- focus on doing something that will help to bring
effective results and change. We need to build bridges --- not walls.
If you can afford to do so, donate to organizations that are threatened by Trump
such as The American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, the Council on
American-Islamic Relations, The Anti-Defamation League, Naral Pro-Choice America,
the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund, the NAACP Legal Defense and
Educational Fund, the Sierra Club, the National Immigration Law Center, and
the International Refugee Assistance Project.
If you have time to volunteer, then volunteer in your community with organizations
that support equal rights and freedoms. None of us can do everything. Most of us
have limited funds and limited time. However, most of us can do some things.
Please do what you can do.
